Fruitcake!

Let me be clear: I do NOT like fruitcake.

However... we live within easy driving distance of a magical bakery! At Assumption Abbey in Ava, Missouri, the Trappist monks are bakers extraodinaire! Made entirely by hand, their rich, slow baked fruitcakes are spiked with rum, marinated fruit and pecans and are absolutely fabulous! The 2 pound cakes are $28 including shipping.

This holiday season you really should treat yourself or a friend!

And, no, I don't get a cut and am not associated in any way with these folks.... except that I and my family love their fruitcakes!

Romance is in the Air!

Over the years I've had the great pleasure of assisting Cupid. I love it! Today Cupid and I :-) are helping a fellow who is active military. This past summer he met a girl... who he says is his world... and he purchased a wonderful necklace for her. He sent along a lovely romantic message to be inclosed in the package.

Whoever thinks that men are not romantic is... well, nuts! Sometimes the enclosure notes are clever; sometimes tender. And some of the most enchanting are poetry.

I love the business I'm in anyway... and this is just icing on the cake!

Last Rose

It's cold here at Bittersweet Ridge! Suddenly we went from very balmy temperatures into the deep freeze. My flowers loved the Indian Summer weather we were having, especially my roses... Alas, their blossoms are gone now!
Out in the studio I've been working on peace and dog jewelry (for World Peace Jewelryhttp://www.worldpeacejewelry.com and For Love of a Dog). However, I'm getting ready for a new adventure with metal stamping and etching. Winter always seems like a good time for experiments and embarking on new creative journeys. Stay tuned for the fruits of my labor :-)
If you haven't already signed up for our newsletter, do it now! We'll be having some terrific sales before the holidays and I know you don't want to miss out on them and special discounts!

New Jewelry

Fall is here! This is my favorite time of year and I'm having a hard time balancing work and play. Luckily for me, my work is pretty playful!

In the studio I'm still having fun with vintage findings and pendants. Especially my little hoard of vintage porcelain pendants and cameos. It's a bittersweet feeling... I dearly love them, but know that when they're gone, they're gone. Be sure to take a look... its not too early to shop for the holidays!

Fall is Around the Corner

We're having wicked hummingbird wars! We have three nectar feeders and I've been re-filling them twice a day! The days are growing shorter and I imagine they're beginning to stoke up for their long flight south for the winter. The heat has finally broken and I can feel my favorite season beginning to inch it's way to control.

I've been busy with custom and wholesale orders, plus having some fun opening boxes of new supplies. I never managed to get around to spring cleaning in my studio... so, unfortunately for me, it will have to be a fall clean-out! Good for you, though, because it will mean some major additions to Bargain Bling at Bittersweet Ridge Jewelry.

While your browsing, take a peek at the new slideshow at the bottom of my blog. I'm rather pleased with myself (that I figured out how to do it! LOL )

Ah... Summer...

Summer afternoon, summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language. ~Henry James

I've neglected this blog for far too long, though lately my excuse has been simply that's is summer. There's so much to enjoy outside... from vegetable garden bounty to my favorite roses and daylilies. Lying on a lounge under the wisteria arbor with a good book and some homemade lemonade... though I've been thinking about beaches, I haven't been thinking about blogs! I hope you're having a wonderful summer, too!

Happy Independence Day!

You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you've overeaten, but it is patriotism. ~Erma Bombeck

Happy May Day!

May 1 is May Day! As old fashioned as it may seem... I carry on the tradition of May baskets! The best are lovely little things left as a surprise for a friend. Tender spring blossoms picked fresh and tucked into a lace doily cone or little decorated basket. Though I, personally, would not turn down a big florist bouquet! :-)

Flowers really do intoxicate me. ~Vita Sackville-West

Celebrate Spring!

For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone;

the flowers appear on the earth;

the time of the singing of birds is come ...

National Poetry Month

At the moment freezing rain is beating at the windows, yet it was 76 degrees yesterday! I think perhaps March is, indeed, the cruelest month. Mother Nature has a wicked sense of humor.

Since my jewelry always seem to reflect my passion for flowers, in celebration of National Poetry Month, here's a bit of a Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem that I adore:

What if you slept, and if in your sleep you dreamed,
And what if in your dream you went to heaven and there
Plucked a strange and beautiful flower, and what if when you
Awoke you had the flower in your hand?
Ah, what then?
